Baylor Soccer Falls Against No. 21 TCU, 1-0

FORT WORTH, Texas – Baylor soccer fell against No. 21 TCU, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

The Bears fell behind early when the Horned Frogs were awarded a penalty kick in the seventh minute. The penalty-kick goal would be the only goal of the first half, as the Bears weren’t able to find the equalizer as the defense stopped the TCU threats.

Starting BU goalkeeper, Ashlee Zirkel, came up big with key saves in the 21st and 23rd minutes that kept the ball from the back of the net. She totaled four first-half saves while facing 12 total shots.

Jenna Patterson fired off the Bears’ only shot in the first half.

Down 1-0, the Bears opened the second half with a corner kick in the 46th minute, but the Bears weren’t able to connect on the set piece.

TCU threatened with back-to-back shots in the 55th minute, but a team save stopped the Horned Frogs from scoring.

Ashley Merrill had the Bears’ first shot of the second half before Salma Simonin followed in the 61st minute but her shot sailed just high of the net.

After Haven Terry subbed on for Tyler Isgrig, Terry got BU’s best look of the match after she went one-on-one with the TCU goalkeeper, who ultimately came up with the save. Freshman Theresa McCullough followed suit with a shot of her own, but again TCU made the save and stopped the Bears’ threat.
