Switching sports does he gain an extra year? I recall that being a thing back in the day for a bit. Steep learning curve going from hardwood to the turf granted people have done it. Best of luck to him in his pursuits except against Baylor.

At 6'8" and having no recent football experience, I wouldn't expect him to be much of a blocking TE. Now if you line him up as a slot receiver….

People keep trying this and it rarely works out. That's because the TE position is more than jumping higher than the coverage guy. In football, the coverage guy can lay you out at the line of scrimmage and for five yards after. So you have to be both quick and powerful. Its just a lot, lot harder than people think.

And Jimmy Graham. Its just such a different way of thinking. Its about leverage, pad level and footwork. Just very tough to teach.

A guy who is 6.8 and 240/245 is pretty damn hard to chip, much less lay out, if you are a college DB.

The reason people keep doing it is it gives you more options and changes the matchups,, even if the TE doesn't catch anything.

But agree that he won't be able to block worth a damn.

In 2017 Ish even scored a TD in Lawrence and maybe another in a different game. Thanks for the reminder! For some reason I remember that one.

Good point - I had forgotten about that. So that's 4 bball players of ours that ended up playing some football over the past decade. Doubt there's another bball program out there that can match that.
